Jim Rohn once said, "Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live."
I want you to MAKE A COMMITMENT TO YOURSELF, FOR YOURSELF today and jump right into this fitness journey!
Before we begin, let me spill out a little secret so that you don't give up on this fitness journey. The key to not giving up is to "Think of why you started every time it feels like giving up."
Let me now list down all that you have to do to get started! Trust me, you'll love it.
1. DRINK MORE WATER
So we need to drink a LOT of water all through the day to stay hydrated and in the best of health.
Also, drinking water can help boost your mood, boost skin health, flush out toxins, help the digestive system stay on track & aid in weight loss too!
You can always spice up the taste by adding in lemon slices, cucumber slices which will also add a detoxifying effect. I truly love doing this, so it's a tried and tested thing.
PRO TIP - Download a water tracker app. Here's a link to the one that I absolutely love using to track my daily water intake. It's called Aqualert.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.overseasolutions.waterapp.app
Also, this app reminds you to drink more water and keep up with your daily water intake goals!
2. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
They say it takes 21 days to create a new habit!
It's always a better idea to write down your goals so you know where you are and where you want to see yourself. These goals don't have to be too dramatic and unachievable, they could be the small changes you wish to make.
Make sure you always have :
Short Term Goals - to be achieved within a shorter period of time such as "eat less carbs", "workout three times a week."
Long Term Goals - to be achieved in a longer period of time. These goals could be centered around Strength, Flexibility, Cardiovascular gains, etc.
Do keep a track of your goals and see how many you've achieved. But remember not to be too hard on yourself even if you do not achieve your goals in the time you decided you would. Just don't give up and keep trying harder to achieve them. That's where the secret to not giving up lies.
Therefore, try and stay consistent with your routine as this one step can take us closer to our fitness journey.
There are many apps available which can help you track your progress or you can even make a DIY planner for yourself to start tracking your progress.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. A wise man once said, "ABS ARE MADE IN THE KITCHEN." You'd be surprised to know that it depends 30% on your workouts and 70% on your diet.
So, Ditch that pizza slice for a bowl of fresh fruits salad and trust me, you'll feel happier and live a healthier life.
It is also important that you eat your food in small portions. Let's say you have three meals in a day - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. So the point here is to have six small meals in a day instead of three heavy meals.
Make sure to include a lot of fibre in your diet and stick by the rule of not eating any carbohydrates after 6 pm as it takes a lot of time for our body to digest these carbohydrate rich foods and we do not get much of physical activity post 6 pm so it gets even harder to digest easily.
Fibre rich foods are fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, breads, grains, nuts and seeds.
Eating fresh fruits and vegetables elevates your mood, makes you more energetic. Also, fruits are an excellent source of vitamins which are essential for our body.
I'm linking down a food tracker app to help you keep a track of what you're eating
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myfitnesspal.android
PRO TIP - Mindful eating is the key. Every time you sit to eat, make a conscious decision as to whether what you're eating will nourish your body or do just the opposite.
4. GET ACTIVE!
"FOOD IS THE MOST ABUSED ANXIETY DRUG AND EXERCISE IS THE MOST UNDERUTILIZED ANTIDEPRESSANT." Do you agree? I totally do.
No more being a couch potato! Get active with your body.
You must workout for atleast 30 minutes a day in order to stay fit and healthy. If you are a beginner, start with small sets of exercises and gradually build it up.
Include Cardio Workouts, Strength Training Workouts, Yoga, Pilates into your fitness routine and stay very consistent with these workouts, your're sure to see a positive change in your body and how you feel throughout the day.
This will also help increase your energy levels, boost metabolism and your mood as well.
Recently I've been loving Chloe Ting's workout. These workouts are for everybody and anybody who wants to get fit. Here's the link:

5.MEDITATE EVERYDAY
"The body benefits from MOVEMENT and the Mind benefits from STILLNESS"
It is as important to tune into yourself and meditate every day as important it is to be active.
Mental health is just as important as Physical health.
How often do you turn inwards and reflect upon what's happening on the inner side? Meditation gives you a chance to do that.
It make you embrace the silence and look within yourself. Not only does it calm the mind but also acts as a soul food which your soul truly deserves.
You may want to meditate right before you go to sleep as it calms the mind and is a good way to unwind.
Also, if you struggle to fall asleep, you may want to try Yoga Nidra which aids in relaxing the body, mind and soul and helps you fall asleep.
Here's a link to an app for daily meditation, do give it a try!

So, get your fitness journey started right away and don't forget to stay consistent.
I believe this Quarantine period is an excellent time to bond with your family and spend your time together, you may start this fitness journey with your family so that it becomes even more enjoyable and helps you stay motivated as well.
